Creative connection
Music, movement and storytelling help people across generations create together.

Music, movement and storytelling connect children and older adults through Sunbeam classes, creative care and community programmes.

ArtsProud is a performing arts social enterprise for intergenerational connection. Our Revisit - Reinterpret - Recreate methodology uses music, movement and storytelling, refined through in-person sessions in Malaysian care centres and PPR communities. ArtsProud Care brings facilitator-led sessions and an AI-guided platform to care centres, so any staff member can run a session. Sunbeam, launching January 2027 in Kuala Lumpur, offers Mandarin theatre for children aged 4 to 12. A share of Sunbeam's profit funds free sessions for seniors in PPR communities, where children and older adults create together.
Malaysia is ageing fast, and for many older adults the problem is not only care but empty days. Isolation and a lack of meaningful engagement speed up cognitive and emotional decline: around 1 in 4 seniors face isolation, which raises dementia risk by about 50%.
Elderly care centres play an important role in supporting seniors' everyday needs, but resources for regular creative and engaging activities can be limited. Access can be even more constrained for seniors in lower-income communities. Existing creative programmes often depend on specialist facilitators and external funding, creating an opportunity for a more accessible, scalable and sustainable approach to senior engagement. At the same time, generations are drifting apart. Many urban children grow up speaking only English and lose the heritage language they would use to talk with their grandparents.
