Convert food waste
Black soldier fly larvae turn segregated food waste into feed ingredients and organic fertiliser.

Black soldier fly bioconversion and aquaponics connect food waste management with the production of fish, vegetables and organic fertiliser.

QuinTerra is a Malaysian green technology social enterprise operating at the intersection of food waste, food security and climate action. Through an integrated bioconversion and farming system, we use Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) to convert food waste into valuable resources that support the production of fish and vegetables. By connecting food waste management with sustainable food production, we are building a circular food system where waste becomes a resource and resources become food again. Our vision is to demonstrate that environmental challenges can become economic opportunities, creating a more sustainable, resilient and food-secure future for Malaysia.
Malaysia faces two interconnected challenges: food waste and food security. Every day, large amounts of edible and inedible food end up in landfills, where decomposing organic waste contributes to methane emissions and puts additional pressure on our waste management system. At the same time, Malaysia remains reliant on imported food and conventional farming practices that consume significant resources.
The problem is not simply that we throw away too much food. It is that we are throwing away valuable resources that could be used to grow more food. At QuinTerra, we believe food waste should not be the end of the food cycle. It should be the beginning of another one.
QuinTerra is a Malaysian green technology social enterprise that transforms food waste into valuable resources through an integrated, closed-loop farming system. We use Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) to convert segregated food waste into alternative protein for animal feed and nutrient-rich organic fertiliser. These resources support our aquaponics system, where fish and vegetables are cultivated together in a recirculating water system. Our approach connects food waste management with food production, creating a circular economy where waste becomes a resource and resources become food again. By closing the loop between businesses that generate food waste and the farms that produce food, we aim to reduce environmental impact, strengthen local food production and build a more resilient food system for Malaysia.

Price: RM3,000 / session
60–90 minute on-site session for up to 50 participants covering the connection between food waste, climate change and food security, and how circular economy principles can turn waste into resources for food production.
Price: RM200 / 100 kg of food waste recorded
Food waste mitigation programme where QuinTerra diverts twice the amount of food waste recorded by the corporate through its own operations. Corporates receive a record of the quantity mitigated to support internal sustainability reporting.
Price: RM300 / person
Farm visit demonstrating how food waste is converted into resources through Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) and used within QuinTerra’s closed-loop farming system to support fish and vegetable production. Maximum 20 participants per session, with refreshments included.
The environment. By funding food waste mitigation, corporate partners help divert organic waste from disposal pathways that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, while supporting a more circular approach to resource management.
Food Waste Mitigation Programme Corporate CSR contributions will support QuinTerra's food waste mitigation activities, helping us process organic waste and transform it into valuable resources through our circular farming model. The programme provides companies with a practical way to turn CSR funding into tangible environmental action, while raising awareness of the connection between food waste, climate change and sustainable food production.
RM500 per tonne of food waste mitigated. Corporates can contribute towards the mitigation of a specific quantity of food waste, making it easier to align their CSR budgets with a defined environmental objective.
